Near Future Propulsion

Description

Recently updated with new VASIMR engine models and improved functionality.

This mod pack introduces a range of advanced propulsion systems, including electrostatic ion engines, plasma engines, and VASIMR engines. It currently features 14 engine variants with different sizes and thrust levels. Their operation is straightforward: supply sufficient power and the correct fuel to run them efficiently.

VASIMR engines function a bit differently. They begin with low thrust and high specific impulse. Using a slider in the VAB or during flight, you can increase thrust at the expense of efficiency.

These engines use stock Xenon Gas along with two additional resources: Lithium and Argon Gas. Be sure your vessel can generate enough power, as indicated in the VAB, since these engines consume significant energy. They are also ineffective in atmospheric conditions, producing little to no thrust.

Due to their high power requirements, stock components may not be sufficient. It is recommended to use large solar arrays from Near Future Solar or nuclear reactors from Near Future Electrical for optimal performance.

For more details, refer to the official KSP forum thread.
