Description
BetterSpire2
BetterSpire2 is a lightweight quality-of-life mod pack for Slay the Spire 2. It bundles multiple features into one mod, with each option individually toggleable from an in-game settings menu. It also supports multiplayer, including kick handling, disconnect recovery, and difficulty scaling.
Two versions
BetterSpire2 is available in two editions:
Full — Includes every feature. It is marked as affecting gameplay in the mod manifest, so all players in a multiplayer session should install it.
Lite — Includes only display and cosmetic features. It is marked as not affecting gameplay, so it is safe for multiplayer without requiring everyone to install it.
Lite includes:
Damage counter.
Multi-hit totals.
Expected HP display.
Potion drop chance badge.
Teammate hand viewer with stats.
Clock.
Splash screen skip.
Drawing mute.
Instant fast mode.
Full adds:
Hold R to restart.
Double-tap R to reset the room.
Kick players.
Difficulty scaling.
Auto-confirm for discard/retain selections.
Features
Incoming damage counter
Shows how much HP damage your character will take this turn. The calculation includes your current block, pet absorption, frost orb passive block for Defect, Focus and Gold-Plated Cables, end-of-turn debuffs, and damage from cards that trigger at the end of the turn. Enemies that will die before attacking are excluded automatically, and regen is included in the expected HP total.
A red number above your character means actual HP damage.
A green 0 means you are fully protected.
An orange number above your pet shows damage your pet will absorb.
The display updates live as you play cards or gain block.
You can also enable Show Expected HP to see your HP after the hit. For example, 14 (38) means you will take 14 damage and end the turn at 38 HP.
Multi-hit damage totals
Enemy attacks that hit multiple times now show the total damage in parentheses beside the attack label. For example, 3×3 (9) lets you see the full total instantly.
Card play count badge
A small xN badge appears above any card that will be played more than once on its next use. This works with duplication effects such as:
Echo Form.
Duplicator Potion.
Burst.
One-Two Punch.
Signal Boost.
Throwing Axe.
Replay enchantment from Hidden Gem.
Because it uses the game’s own play-count hook, future cards, relics, or enchantments using the same mechanic should be supported automatically. Stacking is handled correctly, so multiple effects combine into a single badge value. The badge is shown in the F3 teammate hand viewer as well.
Shop remove price tooltip
Hovering over a shop icon on the map shows the current card-removal price, using the same scissors and gold icons as the game. The cost follows the normal formula and updates after each remove purchase.
Potion drop chance badge
A small badge next to the map button shows your current chance to receive a potion after the next combat. It uses the game’s HUD style, updates automatically, and can be dragged anywhere on the screen. Its position is saved between sessions.
Auto-confirm discard/retain
In Full mode, when the game asks you to discard or retain cards, the selection is confirmed automatically once the maximum allowed cards are chosen. This works for any discard or retain count.
Instant fast mode
This unlocks the game’s hidden Instant animation speed, which is even faster than the built-in Fast Mode. It only changes a preference and does not alter gameplay logic.
Hold R to restart run
In Full mode and single-player only, holding R for 1.5 seconds abandons the current run and starts a new one with the same character, ascension, and act setup, but with a fresh seed.
Double-tap R to reset room
In Full mode and single-player only, pressing R twice quickly reloads the last autosave and restarts the current room. This effectively resets the combat or event without returning to the main menu.
Skip splash screen
This automatically bypasses the startup logos and takes you straight to the main menu.
Teammate hand viewer
Press F3 to open a floating transparent panel showing every player’s current hand in combat. Each card appears as a thumbnail, and hovering reveals the full card text.
The panel also shows each player’s hand stats, including attack, defense, Weak, and Vulnerable, which makes team coordination easier. You can resize, move, page through players, keep it open, hide your own hand, show potion icons, or switch to a compact grid view. Your size and position are saved automatically.
Clock display
An optional draggable clock can appear in the top-right corner. It supports 12-hour and 24-hour formats, and its location is saved between sessions. It is off by default.
Multiplayer support
All features work in multiplayer. Each player sees damage numbers calculated from their own block, pet, and debuffs. The Lite version is safe for multiplayer without requiring everyone to install it, while the Full version should be installed by all players. Versions do not need to match, though older versions will simply have fewer features.
Party management
In multiplayer, the F1 menu includes a Party section listing all players by Steam name and character class. From there, you can:
Hide another player’s map drawings on your screen.
Clear all drawings from the map.
Kick a player, if you are the host and using Full mode.
Drawing mute works per player, so each user can choose whose drawings they want hidden.
Kick and disconnect handling
In Full mode, if the host kicks a player or someone disconnects, the game keeps running smoothly instead of hanging. Combat turns, map voting, event choices, relic picks, act transitions, and player decisions all resolve automatically for the missing player.
If the player rejoins later, their kicked status is cleared automatically, so no restart is needed.
Difficulty scaling
In Full mode, if someone leaves mid-run, enemy HP, block values, and power scaling are adjusted to match the number of remaining players. A two-player run that drops to one player will rescale enemies down to solo difficulty.
This also works during combat. Existing enemies are rescaled while keeping their current HP ratio intact. A host-only toggle in the F1 menu controls whether scaling is active.
Settings menu
Press F1 at any time to open the settings panel. Each feature can be turned on or off individually. The menu is organized into a two-column layout, with combat and multiplayer settings on one side and gameplay and shortcut settings on the other. The Party section sits at the bottom.
The panel can be dragged around the screen, and its position is remembered. BetterSpire2 also supports ModConfig, where all settings appear under the game’s Mods tab. That is especially useful for platforms where the F1 overlay is inconvenient. If ModConfig is not installed, the mod still works normally.
Localization
BetterSpire2 includes full localization for all supported game languages:
English, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Polish, Thai, and Turkish.
By default, it follows the game language, but you can force a specific one from the F1 menu or ModConfig. Any missing translation entries fall back to English automatically.
Save file note
The game uses separate save files for modded and unmodded play. If this is your first mod installation, your progress will not transfer automatically. To fix that, copy your save files from the unmodded folder into the modded folder rather than moving them, so you keep a backup. You can also use the UnifiedSavePath mod.
