Mage Basic Splash

  • Gives the Mage a splash effect on basic attacks, something no standard cat class normally has.

Short Description

The Mage’s basic attack now deals 2 less damage, but it gains splash damage and uses a much more interesting attack pattern.

Splash Damage has been reworked to better match this new design. It now has updated wording, grants bonus range, and deals 1 damage by default. Because of the spreading impact, enemies closer to the center of the attack take more damage.

Force Field has also been updated, now granting both range and area of effect each time it activates.

Long Description

I have always thought it was odd that no class starts with a true splash basic attack, and the Mage felt like the clearest place to introduce one. I also felt the Mage’s default attack was much weaker and less useful than the basic attacks of other classes. Some people might argue that this is balanced out by the Mage’s mana generation, but even with that in mind, the class still seemed to have the least effective basic attack.

Since expanding attack area is already a natural part of the Mage’s identity, reworking it into a more splash-focused class felt like a good fit. This change also works nicely with the Mage’s attack-boosting abilities and passive effects, creating combo patterns that feel much more distinct from the other classes.
