Directive 8020
Directive 8020 is a cinematic sci-fi survival horror game from Supermassive Games, the studio behind Until Dawn, The Quarry, and The Dark Pictures Anthology. Set aboard the colony ship Cassiopeia, the game follows a crew traveling toward Tau Ceti f, a distant planet that may offer humanity a new home. Their mission collapses when the ship crashes and an alien organism infiltrates the survivors. This creature can imitate human beings, making every conversation and rescue attempt feel suspicious. Blending branching storytelling, stealth, exploration, quick-time events, real-time enemy encounters, and permanent character deaths, Directive 8020 asks players to survive both the monsters in the corridors and the paranoia spreading through the ship. Every decision can damage relationships, reveal new paths, or lead to death, while the deep-space setting gives Supermassive Games’ choice-driven horror formula a fresh identity.
A Mission That Goes Horribly Wrong
Humanity is running out of options, and Tau Ceti f appears to be one of its best chances for survival. The Cassiopeia is sent to investigate, but a catastrophic crash leaves the crew stranded far from Earth.
The situation becomes worse when the survivors discover an alien life-form capable of copying its victims. Escaping is no longer the only goal. The crew must prevent the organism from reaching Earth, even if that requires painful sacrifices.
Trust Becomes The Greatest Threat
The central horror of Directive 8020 is uncertainty. A familiar face may belong to a trusted crewmate, or it may be a perfect imitation waiting to attack.
Nervous behavior might reveal an alien, but it could also come from fear or guilt. Players must decide who deserves help, who should be isolated, and whether opening a sealed door is compassionate or fatal.

Stealth And Real-Time Survival
Unlike earlier Dark Pictures games, Directive 8020 includes more active survival gameplay. Enemies can roam the environment, react to sound, and hunt characters outside traditional cinematic scenes.
Players must move carefully through damaged corridors, use scanners to detect organic material, and avoid drawing attention with noise or light. These tools provide information, but they do not make the crew powerful. The focus remains on tension and escape rather than constant combat.
Choices Shape The Story
Dialogue options, failed reactions, broken relationships, and risky actions can completely change the mission.
Some consequences appear immediately, while others return later. A small argument may influence whether two characters cooperate during a crisis. A sensible choice might save one person but endanger everyone else.
The Turning Points system allows players to revisit major decisions and explore alternate branches. Those who prefer permanent consequences can choose Survivor Mode and accept every mistake and death.
Characters And Multiplayer
The story follows five main crew members, including pilot Brianna Young, performed by Lashana Lynch. Each character has a different role and perspective, making group survival more complicated.
The game can be played alone or through Movie Night mode, a local co-op option for up to five players. Friends can assign characters, pass the controller, debate decisions, and blame one another when everything goes wrong.
